Preparing for an Exciting Time

The birth of your baby is one of the most exciting events in your life and a moment that you will cherish and remember always.  You will relate your birth experience with friends, family and even your child as he or she begins their own family.  Your journey will be filled with excitement, joy and an element of fear of the unknown. The purpose of childbirth classes is to help you understand the process of labor and delivery and to answer any questions about your birthing process.  The more knowledge you have of the process of birth, the more likely you will approach your journey with confidence.

The Maternal/Child Center offers a variety of classes to prepare you for childbirth and caring for your baby:

Childbirth Class (Also referred to as The Birthing Plan)

Series of 4 classes includes 8 hours of instruction

Attendance should be planned for the last trimester of pregnancy.  Classes should be completed approximately three weeks before your baby is due.  Register early to assure first choice of days.  All instructors are certified in Childbirth Education.

CPR

This class is included in the Childbirth Preparation Series, however maybe taken separately.  This class is based on the guidelines of the American Heart Association.  Basic rescue techniques for choking, rescue breathing and CPR will be taught.

Breastfeeding Class

This class focuses on the knowledge and techniques to help you succeed and to prevent potential challenges. Discussions will include benefits of breastfeeding to both mom and baby that will last a lifetime.

Car Seat Installation

This class is Presented By Charlotte County EMS.  Statistics show that 96% of the people in Charlotte County are not using car seats for transporting their children or using them incorrectly.  You will learn how to confidently install and place your child correctly in his car seat.
